To everyone who made the Cheltenham Balloon Fiesta possible, from the traders, staff and everyone who attended- Thank you!
After the pandemic, it was something that we were all looking forward to. Unfortunately, after a glorious week, the weather turned rainy and windy much to everyone’s disappointment and the balloon team were not able to fly over the weekend.
On Friday, the more experienced pilots attempted to tether the balloons, but the wind was too strong.
On Saturday and Sunday, the weather continued to be blustery but thankfully the storms didn’t hit, leaving a dry day to enjoy the entertainment.
For the entertainers, this was the first time they had performed in 18 months and it was a relief for them to be back doing what they loved!
Vander Superheroes Space Wheel performed some jaw-dropping sets, with Spiderman skipping on the outside of the 40ft custom structure and some of the team performing blindfolded. Some lucky guests even had the opportunity to have the Vander experience and go up on the wheel, under the watchful eye of Captain America of course!
The Paws for Thoughts dog display team wowed the crowds and got everyone involved voting for the winning pups in the races! Even the dogs close to retirement were jumping through the obstacles like the young pups and some of the dogs in the audience were watching closely, learning some tricks. With an obedience show and finishing with a fire display, the dogs and their non-furry friends were fantastic!
Susie La-la gave an elegant performance on the Silks this classical act was followed by a circus workshop where the children could come and learn some fundamental circus skills!
The International Stunt Team, part of the Stannage Stunt Team family, pushed the boundaries of gravity flying over multiple vehicles! Mark Stannage got back into stunts after some time off, balancing the 4×4 on two wheels up and down the arena. Even when it didn’t quite go to plan, the comedic commentary from the team made it entertaining for everyone!
To finish the evening on Friday and Saturday night, even though the wind was still proving too strong to inflate the balloons, the pilots lit up the crowds with a basket glow. It warmed everyone’s evening and was a fantastic sight to behold, the pilots thoroughly enjoyed it! Followed by an amazing firework display, it was well worth sticking around for.
We hope to see everyone again very soon!
